There was a brother in my hall who streaked at a district convention during the drama when all eyes were on the stage. My Dad was doing security at the time and had to chase him. It was funny to watch. But I felt bad for the guy. He had schizophrenia I think. Anyways, he caused some other disturbances at our meetings and was later "marked" although from what I heard a few of the elders really just wanted to disfellowship him.

You're going the thong way!
by tall penguin inso a friend told me something recently that just blew my mind.
she was interrogated by some elders regarding her choice of underwear.
she was being questionned regarding her conduct with a man and apparently her choice of undergarments reflected the level of intent in her actions.

The situation with my friend was that she'd already gotten into some loose conduct and the elders were attempting to discern intention and "repentance." They use the underwear questions to figure out if she went into the situation looking for sex or not. It's so crazy!
I think the elders get off on this kind of stuff. I recall my jc about 5 years ago. The PO asked me very intimate details about a very brief encounter with a man and had the nerve to ask whether I climaxed or not!!! I could see from the very pleased look on his face that he was enjoying the conversation. I felt like I was being mentally raped. Pervs!!!

So a friend told me something recently that just blew my mind. She was interrogated by some elders regarding her choice of underwear. She was being questionned regarding her conduct with a man and apparently her choice of undergarments reflected the level of intent in her actions. According to these elders, if you wear a thong, you show passionate intent; you're basically looking for sex. And if you don't wear a thong, but wear basic, "respectable" undergarments, then you're a "good girl" and probably just succumbed to momentary weakness. WTF?!
Has anyone else heard of this?

IS THIS WHY ELDERS ARE SO EGOTISTICAL??
by chuckyy ini have this theory.. someone once said to me.....' its no good coming into the truth if you are a sensitive person.'.
i have found in my experience as a former elder that a lot of elders have very large egos.
my theory is this:.

As the wt itself would quote so often these words by Lord Acton:
“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” -

And this...
"The inability of the Church to explain its position Scripturally makes evident an important fact: The Catholic Church has not based its teachings upon what God’s Word says. Rather, it has founded many of its beliefs and practices on the unstable traditions of men.
This is obviously true with regard to Friday meat abstinence. For, look as you may, nowhere in the Bible will you find that Christians were ever instructed to refrain from eating meat on any Friday of the year, or on any other day. It is not a requirement of God. In fact, the Catholic edition of the Revised Standard Version Bible says that enjoining or commanding “abstinence from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving” is an evidence of a departure from the faith.—1 Tim. 4:1-4.
Thus, many truth-seekers are having their eyes opened to see that the Catholic Church has not been holding strictly to God’s Word. And they are wondering whether any religion that does not do so is worthy of their confidence and support. -

Here's the article. Oh...the irony.
*** g70 4/22 pp. 8-10 Should Meat Be Eaten on Friday? ***
Some snippets:
"The effect upon many devout Catholics has been devastating. “All these years I thought it was a sin to eat meat,” explained a housewife in the midwestern United States. “Now I suddenly find out it isn’t a sin. That’s hard to understand.”
If you are a Catholic, can you understand how a practice that was considered by the Church a “mortal sin” can suddenly be approved? if it was a sin five years ago, why is it not today? Many Catholics cannot understand.
When a woman in Canada was asked how she felt about the changes in her church, she replied: “I don’t know. Maybe you can tell me. What are they going to do with all those people sent to hell for eating meat on Friday?”
Not just a few Catholics have asked such questions. The change in teaching has shaken their confidence in the Church. Would you not feel the same way if what you had always been taught to be vital for salvation was suddenly considered unnecessary? Would you not be inclined to question other teachings of your church also? -

Former Bible Study Wants to Talk...

Thanks to all for your advice and support.
yesidid, thanks for that extensive research. Yes, the rewriting of their history is something I intend to address.
zagor,
While many Chinese do indeed study with jws to learn English, this particular family that I studied with have already devoted 3 years to studying, attended meetings and have even preached to others informally. In our last phone conversation, the wife informed me that she felt that this was the "true religion." They've adopted "theocratic" language and seem very deep into the indoctrination process. I'm interested to hear how far in they really are as I haven't seen them in over a year.
I'll be going to see them tomorrow. I'll post tomorrow night if I'm not too tired.

Hugs to you Confused. You've come to the right place. So many of us have gone through the pain and agony of hiding who we are while in the organization. And the "wish I were dead" feelings you described are so familiar. Many of us have prayed for death on more than one occasion while in the organization. Regardless of what you've been raised to believe in the org, Jehovah does indeed love you. So much so that he sent his son to die for you and I so we might have hope. Please remember that.
You are not alone. Please continue to post here. We're listening.

I'm doing my research now. Quotes' site is incredible! I'm loving the site map. It's a great reference for all of the jw beliefs both past and present.
I realize that my first response to all of this is an emotional one. I'm feeling quite overwhelmed. I love these people very much. I was one of their first Canadian friends when they immigrated. I consider them family. I really want them to make an informed choice here. And I hope I can do the information justice.
Thanks for all your help. Keep the advice coming. It's very useful.

Buhdee,
Ya, I thought of that. I'm preparing myself for that. The couple that studies with them is an elder and his wife. I can't see why they'd involve themselves with an "apostate" though. I guess we'll see. I refuse to get into it with any dubs so if it gets ugly I will take my leave.
